Frances Nimmo Greene (1867-1937) was widely known during the early part of the twentieth century as a novelist, textbook writer, and playwright. She is best remembered for her children's books, some of which were required reading in American schools. Greene's primary literary legacy is her novels and her books for children, written between 1901 and 1920. Of her novels, Right of the Strongest (1913) was the most popular and is probably her best. books for children had far-reaching influence; Harry Truman's "reading list," by which he educated himself, included Greene's Legends of King Arthur and His Court (1901). Illustrated by Edmund Henry Garrett (1853–1929) was an American illustrator, bookplate-maker, and author—as well as a highly respected painter—renowned for his illustrations of the legends of King Arthur.
