By mid of the XX Century, Italy was a place producing a significant amount of wooden sculptures. The figurines usually depicted pilgrims, street vendor men and barefoot travelers. Many of the wooden sculptures were sold outside local shrines and churches for the joy of tourist coming essentially from United States. The wood most in use for the carving was cedar but you can find some pieces made with mahogany too. The theme and technique was also relatively similar to the figurines produced on South Germany after-WWII.

The sculpture is in great condition with no chips or crack marks showing.
